This Saturday I went with my mum to West Didsbury to check out Westfest 2012, a street festival involving all the local business owners in the area. The shops and eateries spilled out onto the street to offer discounts, free tasters, and raffle prizes. It was gazebos and bunting aplenty, and even the sun came out for the day!
The first thing I spotted was And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon's cake display (pictured above). It was beautifully arranged and very inviting. The cupcakes in particular looked fantastic. I made a note to come back and get one of the delicious cupcakes before I left!
The florist next door, Living Flowers, also had a gorgeous display outside.
Rose Garden had savoury muffins on offer including goats cheese and red onion, and pancetta, tomato and basil. Savoury muffins is not something you come across often and these combinations sounded really tasty!
At Mary & Archie cafe-bar there was Jerk Chicken being served on the street, it smelled really good, and there were lots of people queueing up to get some! They also had a Mad Hatter's Tea Party theme for the weekend, and I spotted this beautifully painted sign.
The smell of vinegar and fresh chips was mouth watering over at Frankie's Fish and Chips. The chips were golden, crispy and delicious. The front of the store was decked out like a pirate ship and the staff were dressed up too. There was no set price for the cones of fish and chips on offer, they just asked for a donation.
Munich Pancake House, based in Manchester Arndale, had a stall offering fresh crepes and waffles with a variety of toppings. I picked up a voucher to get money off next time I purchase a pancake from the Manchester store!
A Taste Of Honey Delicatessen had a gazebo outside with free tasters of homemade pizza available and the opportunity to 'dough it yourself' - got to love a good pun! They also had a great selection of food inside including hot pies and homemade cakes. I've got to say this is a brilliant little deli and I heard a fellow punter saying how delicious the pizza was.
Frog Furniture had these super cute toadstool candles, if you bought one for £4 you were entered into a raffle to win a voucher to spend in the shop. I went into the shop and had a look around. Everything I saw I loved! From gorgeous art deco mirrors, to driftwood coffee tables, and skull patterned cushions. If I was rich and owned a nice house, this is where I would be shopping for my interior design needs!
Folk went all out by installing a beach! I was really impressed by this! They definitely got into the spirit of things with their West Indies theme.
I saw these fab mugs under Reserve Wines gazebo.
West Didsbury isn't an area I get to a lot, but after visiting the festival today it has opened my eyes to what's on offer and encouraged me to go more often as there are several eateries I would like to try out. I also entered West Didsbury Residents' Association's raffle to win several prizes (including meals at local restaurants, fingers crossed!) They were raising money to pay for the Christmas tree and lights.
The picture above is Junk Shop, a vintage clothes and accessories shop. They had some really nice jewellery including a large eagle pendant in silver and gold. I finished my visit to Westfest 2012 with a 'Mr. Whippy' cupcake from And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon SO good!
